The aim of this review is to explore the reality of food insecurity in South Africa over the last 20 years, drawing on the large body of hitherto un-synthesised literature (peer-reviewed, published and ‘grey’/unpublished) since 1994 that looks at individual, household and community food insecurity in South Africa. We hope to explore the causes, experience and consequences of food insecurity at the local level in the country, with research questions and methods being refined during the scoping and peer review process.
In order to elicit the inputs of a broader constituency we are initiating this open dialogue in which we encourage opinion and discussion on our approach, methods, and the relevance of our review questions. |
